Earthquake Impact
139 Deaths
1.569 Injured
24** Buildings with total collapse
56* Missing persons
88 People rescued Review notes on the figures
(*) The District Administration is carrying out the validation and review of records of people reported as missing, by cross-referencing information with healthcare entities, Legal Medicine, and making direct calls to families who submitted reports. This process makes it possible to update the cases and determine which ones remain active, so the figure changes from 94 to 56 reports and will continue to be updated as the verification process advances.
(**) In response to the emergency that occurred in the city as a result of the seismic event on August 10, 2026, the District Mayor’s Office of Santiago de Cali, with the support of volunteer professionals, implemented a progressive process to receive, verify, and classify reports of damage in the city. In the first stage, reports from citizens are received through the various channels made available. Based on these records, technical teams conduct verification visits in the field to determine the condition of each home or building. Based on these visits, the level of damage is determined, and priority is given to those buildings that require a more detailed inspection for the issuance of specialized technical assessments. For this reason, infrastructure figures may vary among different official reports. As verification visits, inspections, and information consolidation progress, the initial records are reviewed, validated, and classified according to the conditions found in the field. Therefore, this report incorporates the citizen reports received and the progress made regarding buildings that have already been verified, distinguishing the initial information from the damage that has been confirmed and classified through the verification process.
The Cali Mayor’s Office will continue to update this information as fieldwork progresses, with the aim of providing citizens with increasingly accurate figures regarding the magnitude of the damage and appropriately guiding response and recovery efforts.
(***) These 24 buildings are part of the 46 initially reported, which have already been verified.
