With 90 tons of donations and a projected 40,000 visitors, the Giro de Rigo reaffirms its commitment to the city
The Giro de Rigo confirms its date and leads significant donations for the reconstruction

In a clear demonstration of resilience and collaboration between the public and private sectors, the Mayor's Office of Santiago de Cali and cyclist-entrepreneur Rigoberto Urán confirmed that the Giro de Rigo will take place in the capital of Valle del Cauca on November 1st, 2026.
The confirmation of the event not only boosts the calendar of major competitions in the city, but also comes with a substantial donation of supplies and food intended to address the emergency and accelerate the reconstruction of the region.
The announcement included the mobilization of a humanitarian and infrastructure package consisting of 90 tons of cement and 70 tons of adobe bricks donated by Cementos San Marcos, in addition to 1.200 food baskets arranged through Tiendas Ara, 10 tons of hydration supplies provided by Postobón, supports from Banco de Occidente, and more than 15.000 food units donated by Colombina. These supplies will be distributed via a delivery route in Cali and the municipalities of Yotoco, Vijes, Calima, Dagua, and Yumbo.
Regarding the allocation of supplies remaining in the capital, Mayor Alejandro Eder specified that the material will supply the district's recovery logistics: “All these materials will go to the materials bank we are setting up at the Mayor's Office. In the case of Cali, they will be prioritized for the reconstruction of rural housing and also for residences that need minor repairs. We estimate that we will need around 20 tons of humanitarian aid per week to assist the families who are still receiving food baskets.”
The mayor also highlighted the impact the event will have on hotel occupancy, gastronomy, and local commerce: “Thanks to Rigo for believing in Cali and keeping the date. There are 10.000 cyclists plus their companions, some 40.000 people who will arrive in the city. Our infrastructure team must begin inspecting all the roads,
including the climb toward the coast, to ensure everything is in optimal condition. Today more than ever, Cali is the place to be; we invite all Colombians to come and help us heal.”
For his part, Rigoberto Urán highlighted the importance of sending a message of investor confidence by confirming the event and opening new business units in the south of the city: “Cali needs economic reactivation and tourism right now; we anticipate an economic impact of 30 million dollars from the 11.000 registered participants. Opportunities arise from disasters, and the public and private sectors must unite to work as a team. The message is that life goes on, and we must maintain the right attitude during these difficult times to continue transforming and helping.”
Representing the business community, partner organizations reiterated their support for the administration's roadmap. Mauricio Escobar, Corporate Vice President of Marketing at Colombina, emphasized the value of local cooperation: “We wanted to join this donation drive for the communities along the Giro’s route. We brought trucks loaded with cookies, food supplies, and tuna over 15.000 units to offer our support. Collaboration between the public and private sectors is key during this time of reconstruction.”
With the confirmation of the Giro de Rigo, Cali solidifies its year-end events calendar, which includes the Smart Cities Fair (October 25 and 26), the Macondo Awards, the World Salsa Festival, and the Cali´s Fair, demonstrating that the alliance between institutions, the private sector, and the citizenry is the fundamental engine driving the District’s social and economic recovery.
